'Cause Célèbre' for Vogue UK by Kate Moss

Here it is! "Working with cover girl Werbowy and long-time friends and collaborators Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Moss creates a hazily beautiful world - with a healthy splash of the rock'n'roll cool that you would expect from the world's most photographed supermodel." Ella Alexande, Vogue.co.uk

Kate Moss edits for Vogue UK

Daria Werbowy, Vogue UK March 2014
I'm sooo excited to see the March 2014 edition of British Vogue, as my fave Kate Moss takes the mantle as a contributing Fashion Editor. Vogue Editor at Large Alexandra Shulman says of Kate's appointment "I am absolutely delighted that Kate is going to work with us in this new role. Her undoubtedly brilliant sense of style, depth of fashion knowledge and understanding of what makes a wonderful image will be exciting to see on the pages of British Vogue. I am really looking forward to working with her on ideas." Even with only one photo published so far, Kate's first shot as fashion editor has her stamp all over it. Titled 'Cause Célèbre' (-an issue or incident that causes controversy, natch!) and was inspired by Detroit rock band 'Destroy All Monsters', fronted by the camera-friendly Niagara. Niagara says “I was as surprised about this as anyone,” although Vogue had requested some photos of her last year. “ I really had no idea what it was for...until now.”

The teaser picture (1 of 12 in the full editorial) shows a Niagara look-alike Dara Werbowy. This pic has a distinctive mid-90's, rock 'n' roll Natural Born Killers/True Romance/Wild at Heart Americana road-trip vibe (a classic 90's theme I've posted about here). As well as the Niagara reference, Daria looks a little 'Mallory Knox' with a healthy dash of Alison Mosshart (Kate's husband's bandmate in The Kills). Looking slinky, louche & a little bit dangerous, Daria reclines in a (get-away?) car wearing a fitted black dress by Kate's fave Saint Laurent, Pamela Mann fishnets & fingerless gloves from Caroline Amato.

The editorial is shot by long time Kate collaborators Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Alexandra Shulman said of the shoot “From gathering the initial mood board to talking me through the rail of clothes in the Vogue fashion room and adjusting the accessories on Daria Werbowy, Kate took on the complete role of fashion editor...Perhaps not every editor takes her model out partying on the first night of the shoot!”
Kate has a long history with British Vogue, including 34 covers. One of my favourite Kate shoots ever was the notorious 'Under-exposure' shoot for Vogue in June 1993, by photographer Corinne Day. The shoot was controversially criticized for being Lolita-esque and glorifying skinny 'heroin chic'. However I thought it was beautifully done. Kate is obviously naturally thin and waifish, and was 19 at the time. Having had an argument with her boyfriend that morning, Kate's vulnerability showcased in a parred down flat and mixture of simple High Street & designer clothes resulting in low-fi yet striking results.
