Oooh I'm loving these bunnies. Found them at World Beauty, perfect for some Easter presents!
I bought Good as Gold Bunny - 'This bunny is just the sweetest little thing. Full of revelations, this little sweetpea is guaranteed to be unfailing in its loyalty and love'
and Melancholy Teen Bunny - Save this bunny from drowning in the sea of its own woe (and from its secret pack-a-day habit that its mum doesn't know about yet...)
Aaah, big hair. I’ve always been a fan, be it unintentionally with my 80’s poodle-perm, or by getting my ex 60’s model Mother backcombing my locks. I recall one day smooshing up my bedraggled locks and remarking to boyfriend “I love the just got out of bed look”. He replied with “I love the just got in to bed look.” Ha! I was lucky enough to see Alison Mosshart live at the Dead Weather last week, and she was rocking the coolest long ink-black shag which flew about as she convulsed to the music. And my head full of ‘Dust it’, it survived the heady, humid sweaty environs of the gig, plus no small amount of head thrashing. Brilliant. (Love this photo of Alison Mosshart by Shawn Brackbill)
However, as long and wavy as my hair gets – it does not like to be big. It likes to lie flat to my scalp, and the oilies don’t help. So when I discovered dry hair powder, I was elated! Not so elated when I saw the Bumble and Bumble version for around $80 at Mecca. But very excited to find Batiste dry shampoo for $16 at the local chemist. Rub into the roots and soak up the oil, puff up your hair the bottles say. Mop up oil they do like a charm. Make big hair, they do not. Thus, I was super excited when my friend and stylist supremo introduced me to’ Back combing in a bottle’ – Osis ‘Dust it’, the most amaaaazing product! Finally, without pfaffing about with rollers that don’t work, back combing, teasing & hair-spraying that drops out at the hint of a breathe of wind or turns into a lop sided crunchy helmet– I can achieve ROCK STAR HAIR!
Granted, it feels GROSS. I bit like a mélange of wax and a and, a rather unpleasant gritty feeling on your scalp. But by golly, the stuff works. I sprinkle a dusting into my scalp, rub it in a bit, poof up the roots and, et voila – big, tousled, just-been-moshing-at-a-rock-gig hair.
Some of my hair idols include Cindy C, who rocked the most impressive barnet throughout the 90's.
Another fave big hair goddess – Pammy. I love Pammy. If anyone perfects that sexy, tousled just-rolled-out-of-be-with-a-rock-star look, it’s Pammy. I don’t know if it is merely back-combing or a clip on, but I love that ‘pouf’ she gets at the top -back of her head, like ‘hair bustle’, if you will. I guess her hair is so fried, a bit of hair spray would convince it to behave anyway you like. (I'm sorry, you may balk at the pic below, but it is a great representation of Pammy's hair at it's disheveled rock chick best - and I love Tommy Lee.)
My latest big hair fave – Madonna in the latest Dolce ads, trussed up as a glam, buxom Italian housewife. Loving that uber sexy just-got-out-of-bed 60’s hair Madge! (Pics from Vanity Fair)
Not only are The Kills the most exciting rock band I've heard since The Vines & Spinnerette - the front woman is a kick-arse rock chick with sassy style and the pipes to match. Alison Mosshart is a swaggeringly cool rock chick (Who hates being called a rock-chick) in cigarette pants, leopard print jacket, Patti Smith hair and cupid's bow lips. "It's clear from her vaguely Ian Curtis-like stage robotics in the clip above that Mosshart had hipster inclinations even back in Discount. Still, her transformation from a scrappy, DIY punk into a fur-coated, chain-smoking vamp was anything but gradual." (see full article here) I love alsions' style, a cross between Hedi Slimane and Debbie Harry-style. Even sticking to mostly jeans & tees, she still manages to stand out from the crowd.
Despite becoming a fashion icon, she is typically cool about the fact:"I'm far more interested in style than I am in the fashion industry. I really don't care about that. But people with amazing style, really incredible clothes-it's an art and I appreciate it." Next, I discovered the The Dead Weather and was lucky enough to catch them in concert a few years ago. Alison is as stunning in person as she is in the glossies, with porcelain skin, raven hair and an amazing voice.
"She's living proof that you don't have to dress sexy to BE sexy. She doesn't need sequins and leotards to captivate her audience, and she doesn't have to give endless, opinionated interviews for us to know she's intelligent. She's cool because she's underrated and, in this day and age, that's rare." (Alexa Chung on Mosshart's style) Alison, I salute you.
Latest FAVES...just in...how beautiful are these lacey confections from the maestro Phillip Treacy for Valentino? They remind me of spun sugar - delicious.
Also adore these amazing McQueen platforms with the Caliper heels....they remind me of the movie 'Metropolis'.
And how I love these drapey Fendi numbers - which I have decided that if I were rich & famous, I would pair with that fantastic Donna Karan number Jennifer Aniston wore a few weeks ago:
I was never interested in shoes. Infact, I wore black 6-hole Doc Martens solidly from 1991 to 1994. Went through 3 pairs until they had holes in the soles. Apart from 3 nights (where I went to 2 balls and one wedding). In those days it was all about grunge so the docs went with everything from my floral sun-frocks and velour skating skirts to short tight Alaïa style party dresses or jeans. Mum was the shoe enthusiastic. "One day you'll love shoes as much as me" she said wistfully. And she was right.
If you're having a fat day - you know you'll aways fit your favourite shoes. As far as I'm concerned, th etaller the better. Tall slamming heels make your legs longer, calves appear musclier, posture straighter - and you just look more lady-like! The only flats I can stand are Havianas, or trainers at the gym. Having said that, I did just purchase these sandals as I was bored of wearing one of my 12 pairs of Havianas almost every day throughout Summer.
I still can't BELIEVE Posh wore ballet flats, having once said: "I beyond hate ballerina flats. I can't walk in them. Unless they're on a ballet dancer doing ballet, I just don't get it. I love heels." And I applauded her for that! I far prefer her in Louboutins. Flat round toe-shoes (especially Mary Janes - ug) hey are in the realm of Crocs as far as I'm concerned and only look good on little girls (see Suri Cruise). they also make you 'waddle'. Not good.
These are my latest faves, amazing feathered Mohican-style numbers from Givenchy - I love the ones with the feather on the heel best! Love that mohican/pony tail look shoe - check out Gaga's latest boots:
I also finally found a pair of these faux Louboutins (I notice Mi Piaci are doing a version this Winter - mine were a bargain I bought from Scooter in Sydney last Summer): Also - these are my latest new babies - bargain peep-toe buckled boots from Hannah's and heavily reduced zebra and pink snakeskin heeled pair from Karen Millen that I just could NOT leave on the shelf!!!
