Get Leathered in Fall 2012

Recently I finally got around to watching the fabulous HBO series Game of Thrones, and now I am obsessed! The mystical world of King's Landing and Winterfell has me truly gripped, and I noticed that you cannot deny the show's influence on the latest Fall fashions - particularly the influence of leather (and furs!).

Game of Thrones style

At once both sexy and strong, leather has long been a coveted and edgy fashion look. There is certainly something tribal and alluring about the shiny fabric. My earliest inspiration was rock chick Leather Tuscadaero (below) from Happy Days - played by Suzi Quatro, natch, and the Fonz'es unattainable rock chick object of obsession.
Then later it was Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, Lita Ford,Jim Morrison and Billy Idol whose leather looks I coveted. These days most musical ingenues can't carry it off, but the likes of Alison Mosshart, Rhianna and even Kylie Minogue can certainly rock the look.

Back to Game of Thrones, the inspiration is no more blatant than in Helmut Lang's Fall 2012 show, where the actress who plays the fabulous Khalessi Daenerys Targaryen took a turn on the catwalk (below). Designers Michael and Nicole Colovos admit to being heavily inspired by the show for their fur, boots & leather-heavy collection.

More leather looks with a decidedly Game of Thrones feel follow, from Fall 2012 lines by Kanye West, Gareth Pugh, Richard Tisci for Givenchy, Versace and Gucci (-Italians love their leather!). The flowing leather coats & knee-high boots and fur embellishments would not look out of place in Winterfell.

Tee Shirt Dress Style

I love a Tee shirt dress - they are so versatile! Over Summer I lived in stripy Maxis and short Tee Shirt dresses. It's a style that seems to come around every year, with the odd tweak. Bloomingdales decreed the Tee Shirt dress one of the Top Trends for Spring 2011You can go girly with a flowy long Maxi, sandals & floppy hat Polo-style, or rock-up a short Tee Shirt dress with boots & a belt slung around your wast, rock-chick/Kate Moss style. It's the 'go-to' look for the young LA ingenue, aka Shenae Grimes/Taylor Momsen - a butter soft washed-out baggy tee, boots & fishnet or holey tights for that 'Devil may care/I just rolled out of bed' grunge yet sexy look. Or a long fitted, stripy version a clean, fresh Summery look for your Kim Kardashian/Olivia Wilde/Zoe Saldana 30 something type. Here are a few of my fave celeb Tee Shirt dress looks.

My friend Fox & I have our own fledgling baby label, FOXETTE. For our first few designs we released a couple of stripy tee shirt dresses (below), and I've been LIVING in them! So comfortable, and easy to dress up or down. These photos are from our Summer shoot. Our Glam Squad is Owen Allison, photographer and make-up artist and Nikki Dee, model extraordinaire!
